Full-Stack Software Engineer

Matthew Snyder

Five years deep on FDR, the federal draw and reporting platform behind California's Medicaid program. I work the full stack — React front ends, Node.js microservices, PostgreSQL, AWS — and pick up freelance web work on the side.

About

A little context

I'm a full-stack software engineer in Prospect Heights, Illinois, working fully remote. Since January 2021 I've been on the core engineering team for FDR (Federal Draw and Reporting), the platform California's Department of Health Care Services uses to manage federal Medicaid fund draws and reporting. That work spans the whole stack: a React front end, a fleet of Node.js microservices, PostgreSQL, AWS infrastructure, and the CI/CD plumbing that keeps a dozen services shipping.

The rest of my time goes to freelance web work. I maintain and redesign the public site for SingUnited (formerly Sweet Adelines), a women's vocal ensemble — including the move to Drupal 10, security updates, and running their Plesk server. I also rebuilt ServiceSync, an internal technician tool for a Tulsa company, migrating it off .NET Framework 4 and writing the entire React front end from scratch.

AI is central to how I work. I build with AI assistance on every project, and I wrote my own web harness for local LLMs — SinisterAI — a self-hosted application with tool calling, scheduled tasks, and long-term memory that runs entirely on local hardware. It is the tool I now use for my own day-to-day development.

Before all of this: a B.S. in Information Technology from Oral Roberts University (2014), and a long-running habit of taking things apart to see how they work.

Internal tool for field technicians: parts lookups, reference sheets, and file uploads and downloads.

  • Migrated the platform from .NET Framework 4.8 to modern .NET (now net10.0) ASP.NET Core with Dapper, SQL Server, and Azure Blob Storage — then took over ownership of the backend.
  • Designed and built the entire React 18 UI from scratch: MUI with the Pro data grid, document and file workflows, and a webpack build wired into the .NET publish pipeline.
  • Shipped new features on the rebuilt stack, including companion apps for compliance and installation documentation.
